When I came to Aberdeenshire in 92 from Edinburgh, two things struck me, the river fishing and the local people, the fishing was bliss, the Dee the Don the Deveron and Spey to name just a few on my door step I couldnt believe it suddenly I was amongst the big rivers with a magical historical reputation for fishing, my hooks were getting excited! Now the people - well they seemed wary of me "I yir fi doon ther" it took time and as I was the face of British Gas then for Grampian and Highland I didnt have time!! we got there, politeness being my ace card.
So the fishing began in amongst pressures of work and family "you know the stuff" I met folk on the river side and there was many a tale told about how big! I loved the storys, that drove me on to write the book with my fishing buddy Brian who grew up on the Don on a farm croft, he was useful, when I couldnt make out a word a local lad was saying which was often Brian kept me right..haha
So the book started over 20 years ago, Covid allowed for use of time and we pushed on, the book went live in July this year, if your into angling or not its a great read, its fun and educational and can be seen at www.cuthytales.co.uk "a great Christmas pressie" and after the P&J and BBC out of doors featured the book I have enjoyed a surge in sales, ok its not South Pacific retirement but so rewarding. More books ordered "great" meanwhile and to round things off, I was on a course back in the day and this lad was an ex Liverpool player doing the management training stuff, he rabbled on a bit but my take away from his pitch was "never say you dont have time"

Well done! I agree, it's a self fufulling prophecy. If you tell yourself you can't do something or you don't have time then you wont.
