Make Working From Home Work for You
  • Question for you Paul - what percentage of current home workers do you think will keep working from home after all this is over?

    • That's a very good question Andrew, and one I've been wondering about myself. I think, bearing in mind removal of commuting time, lowering pollution and potentially cutting costs, there will be a significant percentage of those working from home just now who will wish to keep doing it. I would take a guess at a third. Another question might be, will there be any companies who will now shut physical offices, and make it their standard work practise, whether employees like t or not?

      • Hi Paul. I think many will want to continue working from home but many will not be able to because the management systems their company has is not "joined-up" enough. They will be finding that although they can get a great connection to their office, the systems they have to work with, based in the office, don't work well together from a remote location (home). They, the employee, is the thing that makes the whloe thing work. I am thinking of companies that operate with basic management systems, have different software products to look after different parts of the business or have a system that only a few employees know how to "tweak" to keep it going. These issues can all be fixed and probably will be if the costs of having more working from home reduces the overhead cost of their employment to the business.

        • Thanks Ian, and what you describe is very possibly the day to day reality most will experience. Do you see these things as 'bedding in' issues, or do you think some aspects will be insurmountable? So many companies will try working from home, but find themseles having to move back to a 'standard' office environment?

          • Hi Paul. There will be a period, after people are able to get back to work in their offices, where they will have conversations with their managers about their "working from home" experience. Some employers are going to realise that there are real benefits for them by having people work from home, and their employess are going to have their views. In those conversations workers will report back on how they were able to "communicate" with their office based management systems. I suspect that many will have found they liked working from home but were not effective because while they could have great link to the office, their systems did not have good links with each other. If companies wish to take advantage of all the benefits they could have, if more people worked and wanted to from home, they will have to invest in upgrading those office based management software systems. In most cases not a large investment if they look at the services you guys & Caiman offer. There will be change, a lot I predict, in the patterns of working, which can benefit those WFH and the companies they work for.
