Tomorrow (10th June 2020) is a key date in the furloughing scheme for employers.

The current Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) will end on the 30th of June 2020.  It will be replaced by a Phase 2 version of the scheme from the 1st of July 2020. The phase 2 scheme will end on the 31st of October 2020.

Employees that have not completed a minimum of 3 weeks continuous furlough leave by 30th June will NOT be able to be furloughed at any time for the phase 2 furlough scheme, which is due to end on 31st October 2020.

In other words, if you want to furlough any of your employees and they have not already been furloughed for a period of at least 3 weeks, they need to have started furlough leave by this Wednesday 10th June 2020 so that they have completed 3 weeks by 30th June 2020.

A second key point is that employers cannot increase the number of employees being claimed for from the 1st of July 2020. Any claim being submitted must be equal to or less than any previous claim submitted for a claim period up to the 30th of June 2020. For example, if your highest single claim for periods up to 30 J‌un‌e 2020 was for 10 people, you can’t claim for more than this number in later periods.
