A good bit of networking advice I've heard a few times overt the years is 'Interested Before Interesting'. But what does it actually mean?!
When we go networking, we might feel that we have lots of interesting things to say and share. And if the other person feels the same, then it's just a talking competition, with not alot of listening!
We go to events to develop rapport and relationships. So that needs asking questions and listening properly - not waiting for the other person so stop speaking so that we can pounce and start speaking!
If you catch yourself speaking too much (trying to be interesting), try to stop and ask some questions (be interested). It's amazing what you can find out when you ask questions! And showing interest always helps to build relationships
