What do O Rings have to do with networking?

Stay with me here... When I got started in business my dad ( a business owner in the energy sector ) told me story about a guy who sold his company O Rings.

O Rings seal the ends of pipes and his company went through a ton of them.

They bought O Rings from the main supplier ( Let's call them Big Corp ), they had done for years.

Another guy wanted the business.

Every week he'd arrive in the warehouse with a box of biscuits for the staff and say ' Do you need O rings?"

He turned up, week after week, always with a box of biscuits. One day 'Big Corp' didn't deliver.

The warehouse guy went to the boss and asked what he should do.

'Call the biscuit guy' he was firmly told.

Rule one of marketing and networking is 'show up'.
Rule two of marketing and networking is 'repeat rule one'.

Next week you have the chance to show up at Linkedin local - Aberdeen and Shire. Will you?

We'll be meeting at Maryculter House Hotel from 6 - 8pm and a light meal will be provided.

Put yourself in the path of lady luck, build your network and meet some new people.

See you there.

  • Second time I've read the O story today and it still hits the spot perfectly
    • I have lots of O Ring jokes. Self censoring mode is on max.
