Side Hustles

Hey Everyone,

Just curious if anyone here has a side hustle? My side hustle is my podcast.

I started the show in lockdown (didn't everyone start a podcast back then?) with the aim of having conversations with some of the best photographers in the world and an open mind to see where things would go. I've since spoken to some amazing people including National Geographic photographers, wildife photographers, landscape photographers, food photographers, family photographers and all kinds of other people from all over the world.

Creating a podcast is incredibly time-consuming but it's something I love doing. It allows me to flex another part of my creativity and I've learned SO MUCH by talking to people who are the best at what they do. I've been fortunate to have sponsorship from a well known camera store, MPB and I've been running live, online photography events with some of my guests which have attracted viewers from all over the world.

When I started the podcast, I had no experience of doing any of this but I've had some amazing expriences with some of my photography heros and I can truly say it's been a transformative experience.

What's your side hustle? Is there something you've been thinking about starting but have been putting off for some reason? I'd love to hear about it.

Graham.

  • Hi Graham - Fantastic! As you know I'm a bit of a podcast evangelist, especially when it comes to what podcasting can do for your business - so well done you. Had a very quick delve this morning, and loved the fact you'd taken a highlight from the show and thrown it right at the top of the episode to draw me into the conversation. Seems like a straighforward thing when I type it out, but you'd be amazed how few think to do that, so you're obviously a natural! Will definitely have a listen to more.

    • Hey John,

Thanks for checking that out, really appreciate it! Have a gret week.

      GD.

  • Fantastic, I didn't know this Graham!  I've just subcribed to your podcast and followed you on instagram too. Looking forward to learning more.

I don't have a side hustle but love that you've shared this about yourself.

    • Thanks, Tim. I really appreicate the follow!

  • Hello Graham Dargie, you are doing a fantastic job and it is quite incredible how you managed to grow your channel in such short space of time on a world wide scale. I gave you a following on insta. How did you manage to attract and engage with high profile names in the photograhy community? What is your secret?

    • Hey Karol,

The secret is just to ask nicely. I've been amazed that the 'biggest' names have been the most obliging. I realise I'm a stranger asking them for a favour out of the blue so I approach them with sensitivity and respect. So I just put myself out there and ask - whats the worst that could happen?

      • Thanks for elaborating and best of luck. I'm keen photographer myself but on a very much amateur level so I may find out your podcast very interesting.cheers

        • What kind of photography are you into? I can reccomend some epiosdes.

          • I do lots of hiking and love capturing the scenery. It would be great if you could recommend 🙂👍

            • Hey Karol,

Check out my episodes with Magnus Lindbom (Swedish winderness photogrpaher), Kai Hornung (International Landscape Photographer of the Year), Dylan Nardini (Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year) and Jim Richardson (40 year National Geographic vetran). There's loads in those episodes for you, hope you enjoy!
