Reskilling

Re-skilling has been something many of us have been forced to do in 2020 – that buzz word pivoting again – and it seems the pandemic is accelerating changes to the workplace that will mean by 2030, 90% of us will have either upskilled or retrained. What do you think?

  • Myself I have had to rearrange my skills set. I have had to completely stop some things as they are no more relevant and learn new things in order sustain my relevance. Although I love to learn new things, it may not be the same for many people.

In my opinion, the push for re-skilling is an effect caused by a combination of factors such as: more access to information, technical advancements, companies looking for ways to reduce risks and lower cost. The pandemic just made this happen quicker.

    • I totally agree that the push to upskill and reskill has been escalated by the pandemic  Cyril Bruce-Cathline and it's true that not everyone has the same mindset to 'life long learning'.

I also realise that some companies are using this opportunity to cut costs, whether its by giving up office space or letting staff go, however I also know there are still companies who are supporting their staff to build their competencies and resilience to be able to face what the future is bringing them...whatever that may be?

  • I don't know if it's a consequence of the pandemic or not, but I've just enrolled on a new course to give myself some additional skills!

    • It's always good to keep our skills updated isn't it Jeanette Lowe as this keeps us ahead of our competitors and builds our tool kit and confidence. Although I always think every day is a school day as there is always something new to learn 😃

      • Definitely Nicky! I'm hoping this will lead to my being able to offer an additional service to my clients or, win some new ones.

        • Sounds like a plan Jeanette Lowe and I can certainly vouch for the amazing service you offer - very efficient, quick and professional!

          • Thank you so much Nicky!
