Happiness

Laurie Santos, Yale’s “happiness professor”, thinks it’s about time to inject a bit more fun into our lives.
“The American psychology professor and Happiness Lab podcaster, who rose to international fame when her course “psychology and the good life” became the Ivy League university’s most popular course of all time, says that consciously injecting more fun into our lives – which she refers to as a “funtervention” – can not only improve mental health and help prevent burnout but also improve physical health.”

I couldn’t agree more – a bit of silliness and some laughs with my friends always does me the world of good!

What do you do for fun?

  • Great post as always Nicki! Mine changes depending on the mood I'm in, baking, yoga, hiking and spending time with family are probably top of the list!

    • It's good to mix it up isn't it Siobhan Jaffray and having pursuits that include the people we care for helps to spread the love...and fun! 😍

      Happy Friday!

  • That's a really good question, Nicky! It made me realise that I need to start doing more fun things again. :-) I'd love to get back into climbing, I used to love going to my local climbing gym when I lived in the Netherlands. It's a great mental and physical workout and indeed a lot of fun!

    • Wow wall climbing looks really hard Iska Birnie so I'm not sure I'd find that 'fun' but then again I've never tried it! Although once we have mastered a new skill, regardless how difficult it is, it can become fun as we progress and improve. If you do take it up again, let me know how you get on. 😁

  • Hi Nicky,

I learned to roller skate with my 5 year old daughter this year and it's had a huge impact in my life. I think it's the combination of learning a new skill, excercise, listening to some great music in the headphones that add up to an hour or so of sheer good fun that's great for my vibe. If you told me a year ago I'd be skating I never would have believed you but I don't think I'll ever go back.

    Hope you're well!

    • Well done you Graham Dargie what a fun past time and I bet your daughter thinks you are awesome!?

I had roller boots (not roller blades!) around 15 years ago and would skate along the beach with a friend. Once you got your confidence up, it was the best exercise/fun/laugh ever! Not sure I could do it now!

      Keep on rolling Graham!

      • It's skates for us, too! They say you never lose it, so maybe it's time to give it another go. We have a great skate coach if you wanted to brush up your technique! 😜

        • A skate coach?! Now that sounds like a good idea as I'd need all the help I can get to build up the courage to pull on my roller boots again! 🛼

Although if I did, then maybe I could be the skating coach...a new coaching offer for my clients?! 🤔

  • Good one Nicky - again! I have to have fun every day! Sometimes it's little things like just having a laugh or turning up the radio a bit louder in the car and singing along!

    • I totally agree Andrew Smith 'a little of what you fancy does you good' and a wee chuckle every day is the best tonic! 🤣
