(D)-advice

Happy Fathers Day!

There are many things in life that make me happy, but none of them come even close to the joy of being a Dad. My Dad is sadly no longer with us, but he was a fantastic blueprint for the role. He taught me everything important, and, like most Dads, probably a few things that weren't really all that important at all. Important to him perhaps, or maybe he was just having a laugh. The kind of thing ONLY your Dad would tell you. As we like to call it in our Two Dud Dads podcast - Dadvice.

I would LOVE to hear Dadvice Quotes from your Dad.

Things like: "Never trust a man with a beard. They have something to hide'. 'I can tell a lot about a man by his shoes'. 'Be wary of folk who volunteer for everything'.

Also, just while I'm on the subject, I LOVE this clip from an upcoming show I'm hosting with Neil Fachie MBE called The 1% Club. It's out late Summer, the week Neil touches down in Tokyo for the Paralympics, and our guest on the second show is Dame Evelyn Glennie. Here she is talking about the quiet encouragement she always received from her parents, including the most Aberdeenshire Da' Thing Ever. Enjoy.

  • My old Dad used to say 'everyone's different' Seems like simple advice but it's something we should all try to remember every day. He also said 'never pour your nip into your pint'. Still don't really know why he said that!

    • Well, have you tried it? :-)

      • Still drink them separately. Good advice!

        • I was just thinking if they'd rang the bell, you know. Time saver. Mr G's Inverness promotion on Christmas Eve 1993 - My friend and I somehow had a row of drinks lined up in front of us, (from some sort of ridiculous promotion) which were cruelly whipped away by bar staff because closing was something like 11 o'clock. We'd only just arrived. Greatest regret of my life Andrew. Greatest regret. ;-)
