Hi lovely members of ABN...

I would like to ask you all for a little help please: My son is in his final year of school and is keen to pursue a career in engineering. He is looking for businesses that might be advertising Degree Apprenticeships - specifically in mechanical/ instrumentation in oil and gas as a preference. As niether myself nor his dad are in engineering or oil and gas we don't quite know where to start. We have done the usual searches and ground work but it's not really producing anything. Therefore I was wondering if any of you wonderful people may have any ideas, suggestions, know of anyone looking for apprentices, or generally anything else that might be of use.

Thank you for any assistance.

:-)

  • Hi Carol

My 15 year old thinks he's leaving school at the end of 4th year and has mentioned an apprenticeship. Obviously Facebook was listening as my feed got filled one afternoon with adverts for apprenticeships! I collected them all in a WhatsApp chat with my son and husband to look at later. I'll have another look through and see if there's anything suitable for your son.

If all else fails, just talk about what your looking for with your phone around and the solution might appear in your feed smile

    • haha how funny! I know that works for some of the things I talk about then there are the adverts for stuff I didn't talk about - eek haha.

Thanks for the heads up. My son could go to university but I think he is fed up of sitting in class rooms and wants to get out and do something hence the degree apprenticeship route. We will see where this all takes him!

      Hope you are well. laughing

      • I'm good thanks Carole! Got one teenager off to uni and now dealing with the stroppy 15 year old ha ha

  • Hi Carole.  I would suggest companies such as Score Group, EnerMech, Global Energy Group, Hydrasun and RWG (Repair & Overhauls) would be good places to check their websites if they are offering any such schemes at the moment.   There is also the further study route through North East College and RGU but maybe that's not suitable.   Hope some of this may help.

    • Hi Andrew

Thanks for the response. I know he has been in touch/ looked at some of these companies but not all so good to have suggestions. He has university as a back up but I think he was hoping for a more hands on learning route.

      Thanks again.
