While I use KDP for my books, there are other self publishing companies you can use.
These include...
- Ingram Spark.
- Lulu.
- Draft 2 Digital.
And a few others!
There may be a number of factors that determine which company you go with - e.g. paper quality, binding, distribution, etc.
You can also use multiple companies for the same book (although you'll need your own ISBN) - for example publishing the paperback on Ingram Spark, and just using KDP for the copies sold on Amazon and the Kindle version.
(Interestingly, KDP and a few others use Ingram Spark for their "extended distribution" to bookstores, etc. - so be careful when selecting these options when using multiple self publishing companies for the same book.)
Make sure you read self publishing websites terms and conditions (rather then going "yeah" and clicking agree without reading, like a lot of people do with software, websites, etc.) and read the documentation carefully.
