Inspiration

Thomas helping granny with some calcuations!

This little boy was the inspiration for me starting my own business.

I'm just back from spending a few weeks with him and his Mum in Australia.  I was able to spend time with them but still work at the same time.  I spent my mornings/early afternoons with them then logged on when the UK woke up and worked for a few hours when Thomas went to bed.  It worked great and I am looking forward to doing it all again in October.  I love the flexibility of working for myself.

So I am interested - what was your inspiration for starting your own business?

  • Like others have posted, redunancy played its part in setting up but it was always something I wanted to do, just needed that push...plus I don't like being told what to do!!

Now my inspiration comes from my wife Lesley and my boys Jack and Daniel (and the other half of Flux, James...but don't tell him I said that!!) which allows me to stay passionate about the work that I do and to work with some great clients (you know who you are!!)...also helps having the most Fluxtastic Business Support in world!!
    • Redundancy does seem to be the popular reason for starting up and thank you, it is easy being fluxtastic when the clients are fluxtastic too and hopefully you don't get too upset when I tell you what to do!
  • Aww Karen this is too cute! Hope all is well with you :)
    • Thanks Nicola, I know I love this pic. Great thanks hope all is well with you too.
  • Such a sweet little guy! Glad you had a great time
    • Thanks Jessie, yes he is a wee darling.
  • Cool, inspiration. And a cool Scotland top too!

It was in my heart to start my own business. I was paid off too and thought, right, NOW is the time! Very hard work but very satisfying. So glad I did it
    • I'm so glad you did too Andrew! And yes love him in his Scotland top, he has a wee kilt to match too. His English Dad not so keen though :-)
  • I started my own business after getting paid off. It was the push I needed and also acted as motivation for me to do well. I'm so glad I took the leap as everything has turned out well.
    • Yes Phil, sometimes you just need that push. Thomas was mine, I had thought about starting up on my own for so long but always put it off. I only wish I had done it sooner and I've lost count of the people I have met that say the same. Good to hear business is doing well and welcome to Inverurie! We need to catch up soon.
